Museum collection dedicated to the Huetterott family
Two nights ago in the redecorated forester’s cabin at the entrance to the park woods of Zlatni rt (the Golden cape) there was an opening ceremony of the museum dedicated to the Huetterott family, who purchased respective lots and horticulturally designed this area at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries. Member of the City hall for culture Marino Budicin used the occasion to remind how baron Georg Huetterott, being a respectful member of the economic and social life of Trieste at the time, had ambitious plans about tourist development of Rovinj, but his sudden death prevented him in doing so. Crveni otok (Red island) and Zlatni ri (the Golden cape) were since then managed by his wife Marie and daughters Barbara and Hana. However, Marie and Barbara lost lives in partisian purges at the end of the World War Second. Hana lived in Germany, where she received regards from Barbara Heinz, Marie Huetterott’s niece. The forester’s cabin was built in 1932, as an accommodation facility for the wardens of the park woods. After coming into state possession, Zlatni rt (the Golden cape) became protected as a landscape of special importance in 1948, and as park woods in 1969. After investing in the small bay of Lona, northern part of the park, members of the City hall decided to put in order the forester’s cabin, in which all information about the park are available or where the collection about the Huetterott family can be seen. It also offers information on leisure facilities, especially the attractive ones such as climbing the rocks of the former stone-pit of Muntravo. Namely, the local authorities have come up with a “formula” that would not make the museum collection budget-burdening, but would be maintained by the agency of Pula "Promon-tana", which has arranged its office within the cabin. Another two museum collections, an ongoing initiative realization, will be functioning on similar basis, a museums of boats and history of Rovinj.
On behalf of the County of Istra, dr. Lido Sošić, a member of the County hall, expressed gratitude to the City of Rovinj for this project. Bringing back the memories of his serving in the forester’s cabin, Sošić said that the establishment of the museum collection had been considered even then, which wasn’t possible owing to political circumstances. Zlatni rt (the Golden cape), along with the old uptown area, makes the most significant natural and cultural monument of Rovinj, with only a small number of the Mediterranean towns to be privileged of having such sites. While other well-known park woods followed a development pattern as arboretums, baron Huetterott introduced exotics to existing cultivated areas, which added special value to Zlatni rt (the Golden cape), which Rovinj has to take care of responsibly.
After Marino Budicin thanked to all those who contributed
to the arrangement of the forester’s cabin and the museum collection
– including contractors, Miramare company, Utility services, Rubini,
Natura Histrica, Žakan Juraj, University library, County museum, as well
as a large number of individuals – mayor Giovanni Sponza officially opened
the newly redecorated facility. text: A. Pokrajac - Glas Istre 24.08.2003 |
