Rovinj's Night

The sweetest treat of the Saturday night in Rovinj, was the spectacular fireworks which lasted about 20 minutes after it had started exactly at midnight. The occassion was the celebration of two exceptional jubilees- 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Tourist association of Rovinj and 40 years of the event called ' Rovinj's night '- organized by the Tourist Association of Rovinj. The sky was sprinkled with thousands of little stars whose play of colours , bright and strong, changed night into day for a few moments but it only brought to an end something special that has been going on for days.

It all started off days before with numerous concerts and different events including sport and culture, which was also only an overture to a big celebration, which was the reason many curious people came to the city of St. Eufemija to be there that night. Many people came from all parts of Istra, and filled every corner of the town, which looked like a bee-hive. Everywhere was song and cheerfulness. Seven stages had been set and 150 performers have been taking turns at performing. A new place was inaugurated, on the ' Baluota' beach, which enlighted by torches and candles turned out to be mystical and natural scenery for the performances given by singers and bands mostly from Rovinj.

On Thursday, 21th August, on 'Monte' summer stage, Vlatko Stefanovski and Miroslav Tadic gave their performance. The crowded audience enjoyed the spectacular interpretation of the Mecedonian folk melos given by the excellent guitarists.

On Friday, August 22nd, town squares have been crowded with folklore groups from Istra, presenting traditional music and dances. In ACI marina, the spectacle of light ' Three Islands ' by Goran Petercolo was formally opened, while performances of ballet, opera and drama ' Night under the stars ' and concert of Teresa Kesovija took place on the summer stage.

Saturday, 23rd of August, started off with different traditional sport competitions and manifestations.

All day long one could enjoy excellent choice of Istrian wines due to the manifestation RoVino 003.

In a ceremonial manner traditional awards were given to the faithfull visitors of Rovinj.

As it was getting dark, the wildest night started on many stages.

On the main stage, in Marshall Tito's Square, the stars of the evening were Doris Dragovic ' The Queen of Torcida ', Boris Novkovic and famous American soul band 'The Drifters '. The musicians from Detroit brought famous 'Motovvn' sound to the riva. A "Barn" was like always prepared by 'Gustafi', and for those a bit silly the attraction was Davor Gobac near Veliki mol.

The frontman of the band called 'Psihomodopop' and his performance could be most suitably described by a refrain from one of their songs, ' Man I feel high, brains bye-bye...'. E.T was something for the fans of electronical music. Their show was filled with dance and loud approval. As usual, Franci Blaskovic was successful in his fight vs.tourism and 'Duo Domizana' were great as always.

In front of Sailing club, fans of Minea and Gabrijela Galant gathered to listen to them and their bands. In the hills, a field was the place for romantic lovers, entertained by Davor Terzic, who was playing music for them.

Just before midnight it became very crowded because visitors were trying to find the best location for watching the fireworks. Besides from the coast, it was being watched from the sea as well. Many boats and ships sailed off to the sea to see the spectacle. Many boats from Vrsar and Porec also came and gave the atmosphere even more beauty with their lights. Every successful creation in the sky was followed by loud applause, shouting and ship sirens made by 50 000 visitors, according to the organizer. The traffic was jammed, despite the efforts made by the police and organizers , so many people have been watching from their cars. This year 'Rovinj's night ' was better than ever and organizer was given a straight 'A'.
