FROM "VW ROVINJ 2003", THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL VW BEETLE GATHERING
Town Square Swarming with “Beetles”

Third consecutive three-day socializing of Volkswagen owners and fans, namely the charming “Beetles”, was finished yesterday by filing across Maršal Tito Square. More than 170 cars lined up here, and their owners drove in from all over Europe.

Traditionally, there were awards in several categories. The brick-coloured Beetle with a birdhouse on the top, brought in from Italy by its owner Dario, was pronounced the most charming, while the award for making the longest trip went to a Volkswagen that came from France. Finally, the award in the old-timer category, also provided by Rovinj Tourist Association that was the sponsor of the meeting along with “Burić” car company, went to a Beetle from Slovenia, made way back in 1957. The international meeting was organized by “VW Beetle Club Zagreb”, and the participants were guests at the “San Polo” auto-camp, near Bale.

Sunday morning was marked by music as well. As the Beetles entered Maršal Tito Square, a short performance was given by a Macedonian folk troupe from Skopje that delighted a large number of spectators within the marking of a traditional event entitled “Days of Macedonian Culture in Istria”.
