Advertised book of recipes from «The House of Batana»

Last year in the city of Rovinj was founded Eco Museum of Batana. In this museum through picture and photography, video media, stories of fishermen and a documentary about the manner and the process of building the batana was paid the tribute to the native vessel of fishermen of Rovinj. These days yet another tribute was paid to this vessel via book of recipes «The House of Batana».

This book consists of about fifteen old and long forgotten recipes of dishes «caught» in the sea solely by batana. All this ancient recipes, that only yesterday laid hidden in the secret compartments of grandma's chest written on worn pages, were brought to light with the help and effort of Marisa and Sergio Ferrara, who gathered and selected them for the purpose of this book.

Sergio Ferrara claims that the majority of these recipes he inherited from his father who was a fisherman and spent his whole working life at the sea. There are, among other, recipe for cuttlefish black risotto, fried jellyfish, brodetto (fish stew), grilled crab, grilled mussels, cuttlefish salad and cooked small crabs (nanari). In this book particularly are interesting attractive photos of prepared dishes taken by photographer Damir Fabijanić, as well as described manner and the right time of catching «the main ingredient». This book is a cherished testimony of ancient times and diet of our ancestors, an exceptional gastronomic souvenir of tourism oriented Rovinj.
