Rovinj Welcomes and Sees Off Veljko Rogošić

On the Little Pier, the citizens of Rovinj welcomed the popular marathon swimmer Veljko Rogošić with applause and ovations, and then saw him off from the same place later the same morning. Having swum into the Rovinj town harbor, he completed the third leg of the swimming marathon called «Savudrija – Prevlaka 2005».

The famous sixty-four-year-old, who was pronounced the best marathon swimmer in the world seven times by the World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation, stated as the motto of his swimming venture that by swimming down the Adriatic he wanted to recommend work and sports to young people, rather than drugs, and send a clear message that anything in life can be achieved if you want it enough. His personal wish is to swim the thousand kilometers of the so-called blue route on this last marathon that started on July 1st and should be finished in Prevlaka on August 19th. In addition to numerous citizens, the marathon swimmer from Split was also received by representatives of Town and Tourist Board.

The new Rogošić’s challenge is the last in a series of previous ones, the most important among them being the swim from European mainland to Africa, and last year’s swim over the La Manche channel.

During the many years he has been engaged in marathon swimming, he won the World Championship four times, he was pronounced the world record holder several times, and in 1992 his numerous successes provided him with the honor of having his name carved among the most famous athletes of the world in the renowned Florida Hall of Fame.
