2nd SUMMER SALSA FESTIVAL
Rovinj Danced to the Rhythm of Salsa
On the last weekend of June Rovinj hosted the 2nd International Summer Salsa Festival. Beginner and advanced workshops in this extremely popular Latin American dance were organized by the Mambero dance club from Zagreb, while the main sponsors of the event were the Maistra tourist agency, the City of Rovinj, and the Tourist Association.
The 2nd Salsa Festival gathered more than 400 dance workshop participants who learned the various salsa styles (partnering, body movement, ladies styling, Los Angeles salsa, Cuban salsa, cha-cha-cha and rueda) with the help of twenty-five instructors. The workshops were organized every day during the morning hours at the Eden and Park Hotels.
However, the main event of the festival, at least as far as the audience was concerned, was the show performance prepared by some of the finest salsa dancers, the so-called salieros, at the main Rovinj city square.
As many as twelve groups and couples from different countries of the world danced salsa inspiringly, each in their own special way, on a specially prepared stage long into the night. Apart from the dancing attractions, the audience welcomed the performance by Cubismo, the famous band from Zagreb that cherishes Latin American music with elements of jazz, funk and rock, following in the footsteps of their idols, the legendary Buena Vista Social Club.
