The first part of the concert, held inside the beautiful Franciscan Monastery, was opened by the Dubrovnik Guitar Trio performing Bach’s Trio Sonata (BWV 528). The trio’s performance was followed by a repertoire of songs by Italian masters - Tenaglia (Begli occhi, merce), Parisotti (Se tu m’ami), Giordani (Caro mio ben) and Pergolesi’s aria called Eja, Mater fons amoris from Stabat Mater – performed by mezzo-soprano Katja Markotić in her authentic style. The first part of the concert ended with an exceptionally demanding Symphony No. 3 by Dubrovnik Baroque Master Luka Sorkočević.

The renowned Croatian opera singer, known throughout Europe, used the second part of the concert to present Spanish and Mexican composers.

After the brilliant performance of Enrique Granados’ Three Spanish Dances, the audience had the opportunity to hear songs by Mexican composer J. Cesar Oliva, which he composed to the lyrics by his famous compatriot and poet Jaime Sabines and combined into a cycle called Sabines Forever. The second Mexican composer, Manuel Ponce, was presented through an inspired performance of the following songs: Insomnio, Adios mi bien, adios and Espera. Katja Markotić deservedly received two hearty applauses for performing two encores, namely a section from Bizet’s Carmen and Ponce’s Le jos da ti.
