12th summer festival ended
Beethoven as the biggest gift
The 12th Rovinj Summer Festival, which this year included twelve excellent concerts, was finalized with a performance by wind-instrument ensemble „Gruppo Fiati Musica Aperta“, conducted by maestro Pieralberto Cattaneo.
For their Rovinj performance, the wind-instrument orchestra has performed compositions by one of the most famous composers of all times Ludwig van Beethoven. And while the performance of Octet in Es-major op. 103 (Allegro, Andante, Manuetto, Finale. Presto) was played to the original notes, conductor Pieralberto Cattaneo, who majored in composition at the Musical Institute „Donizetti“ in Bergamo has adjusted parts from Fidelie op. 72 and 3 Lieder op. 48 to the ensemble.
Opting for a demanding Beethoven program was not accidental considering that this year marks the 180th anniversary of the death of this famous composer and author of well-known Ninth Symphony.
Italian musicians – Giovanni Perico, flautist, Angelo Giussani and Giuseppe Cattaneo at oboes, Savino Acquaviva and Roberto Bergamelli, at clarinets, Ugo Gelmi and Roger Rorta, bassoon players, Valerio Maini and Ezio Rovetta at tenor horns and Giampiero Fanchini at contrabass have risen to the occasion by performing Beethoven’s compositions. The audience greeted their two-hour long music playing in church of St. Euphemia by two encores.
„Gruppo Fiati Musica Aperta“ was founded in 1976 upon initiative by the conductor Pieralberto Cattaneo. Wind-instrument ensemble established itself at the International competition Strese 1981 and until today they had performed at all major Italian concert seasons.
The musicians have received large number of international recognitions. „Gruppo Fiati Musica Aperta“ made an album with sacral and chamber compositions by Donizetti and Mayra and they are also active in modern music arena.
The Rovinj Summer Festival, whose founder is an Art Director female mezzo-soprano Katja Markotić, and the co-organizers the Tourist Board, Town and Hotel Company „Maistra“, have this year, with selection of the performers, concert programs and large audience attendance justified its existence and longevity.
