The Winner of the Golden Goat – Capra d'oro Award for 2007 ROVINJ TOWN TOURIST BOARD The Batana Procession with a Dinner at Spacio project is an extension of the Construction and Launch of the Rovinj Batana with Traditional Fishermen’s Nights event. This project aims at creating an experience that would supplement this destination’s tourist offering. The Summer Ethno Night in Spacio, including the typical gastro offer of wine, sardines, bitinade and other traditional values of Rovinj, is conceived as a gastronomical museum, a window on the history of the town that should evoke the old fishing tradition of Rovinj. The program included a visit to the eco-museum Kuća o batani (The Batana House), placing guests aboard lighted batanas, and a ride alongside the old town to Spacio Matika (arrival from sea). Spacio Matika is situated on Vid Švalba Street, right next to the sea, and the guests reached it from the sea, in oar-powered batanas. Once a week, on Tuesdays during the tourist season, the townsfolk of Rovinj told their story with local music, fried and cured sardines and wine, while the musical atmosphere was entrusted to the members of the folklore band Batana and Culture & Art Association Marco Garbin. The Batana Procession with a Dinner at Spacio program is included in the holiday packages offered by the Maistra hotel company, travel agencies for individual guests and groups, and other travel providers. |
