THREE-DAY POPOLANA HAS ENDED

Over fifty thousand kunas was raised for children with special needs  

The second Popolana, an event taking place for the second straight year, will be remembered for a humanitarian action ‘1+1= a million steps’, in which local citizens and tourists visiting the town of Saint Euphemia showed the kindness of their hearts. The sale of T-shirts lasted for three days and all money was intended for the acquisition of computers for the members of the Rovinj Association of People with Disabilities and more than fifty thousand kunas was raised. The final sum is the result of efforts invested by all people involved and it must be noted that all Rovinj’s sports clubs, in addition to being active participants of Popolana, contributed financially.

In addition to the Popolana humanitarian action that took place in line with the famous maxim ‘A healthy mind in a healthy body’, numerous professional and amateur sports clubs were presented at the event. However, one might say that the last day of this sports and cultural event was mostly in the spirit of the sea, marine life and fishing. About thirty fishermen visited the parking lot in the Valdibor area in the early morning hours and other fishermen, who joined them, were line fishing from their fishing boats

The County Championship in Underwater Fishing took place and the 4th Rovinj’s Half-Marathon attracted about one hundred runners. Considering that the catch of the day was excellent, all fishermen and their friends enjoyed savory fish delicacies. Next to organizers of Popolana, Rovinj Town Authorities, Rovinj Tourist Board, Maistra and Rovinj Sports Federation the main stars were citizens and tourists. Without their participating in sports disciplines they would not have been such diverse and mass events. Cheerful and pleasant atmosphere in the town square and promenade was even more fun thanks to Martina Pahović and Andreja Istrat, the animators who announced events and entertained with various comments inviting citizens to participate. The crown of the entertainment program was a concert by a local band called Le mond.
